For three years acclaimed artist Vik Muniz journeys to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, outlying Rio de Janeiro. He takes pictures of an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. His initial intent was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. Instead, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives.

I cannot wait to watch this documentary: Waste Land

Going with friends and trying on glasses is by far one of my most favorite forms of entertainment. It’s probably the childlike innocence of costumes, and putting on different faces. Not to mention they make a great accessory. BUT anyone who has bad eyes knows how ridiculously expensive it costs with insurance, let alone without, to get new frames & lenses.

Worry no more! Thanks to the wonderful people at Warby Parker a new age has come:

  • Only $95, For high quality prescription glasses
  • Free Shipping/Free Returns, no hassle to buy online
  • The best part: Buy a pair, GIVE a pair!  to people in need.

This space looks tiny but so appreciable, a skill I would like to refine. Simple with style.

This innovative design is one of my favorite things I’ve found so far this year:

If someone would have explained this concept to me, I think I would have been turned off by it. But seeing it… wonderful. Hand assembled & hand knotted into perfection. This streamlined experiment of pearls and metal is pristine & prominent. Find the necklace $98 and bracelet $75 at J. Crew. As if there needed to be a reason to shop there more.

Welcome! My name is Catie and I live in Portland. I’m fascinated with style, probably because it changes as much and as fast as I change my own mind. I dream of things and new ways to express who I am and how I interact with the world. I hope you enjoy your time here. I know I will. find out more.
